Philip Nelson

Nelson is in his fifth year as the head coach of the Colorado Christian women's golf team. He is in his seventh season assisting the men's squad. 

PhilNelsonIn the last three years as the womens head coach, Nelson has led the program to new heights. He has coached two athletes to the Freshman of the Year honors in the Conference, developed the nation’s No. 1 ranked NCAA DII Freshman class for the 2018-19 season, reached an all time program high national ranking in 2019, achieved over a 3.5 team GPA for the last four years, and led the team to be co-champions of the Colorado Christian Academic Cup in 2019. Nelson is also responsible for leading the charge to raise over $100,000 for the Women’s Golf program from 2018-2019. The 2019-20 campaign saw the squad tally the ninth-best team GPA in all of NCAA Division II.

In addition, he coached Faith Kilgore to RMAC Player of the Year honors for the 2020-21 school year. 

His coaching career with Colorado Christian includes four straight NCCAA National Championships on the men’s side while helping the squad to appearances in the NCAA Regional Tournament on five occasions.

Outside of this collegiate coaching credentials he is a member of the Professional Golf Association and has taught lessons as a certified instructor for Craig Koy Golf. Nelson has caddied and instructed numerous golfers who were on the Canadian Pro Tour as well as PGA and LPGA Q School participants.

He has helped lead three missions trips to Kenya as a part of Athlete in Action. The trips included both collegiate and professional golfers.

As a player he has played a handful of professional events including the Colorado Open.

A former standout player for the Cougars, Nelson captained the team for three years before his collegiate career came to a close in 2011. During that time he represented Colorado Christian at four NCAA Division II tournament. He was named the school’s Male Athlete of the Year as a senior. He earned all-conference honors twice.

He runs his own private golf instruction company. Nelson and wife Nancy live in the Denver area with their daughter.
