Athletic Trainers (ATs) are highly qualified, multi-skilled health care professionals who collaborate with physicians to provide preventative services, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions. Athletic trainers work under the direction of a physician as prescribed by state licensure statutes. The National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) Code of Ethics states the principles of ethical behavior that should be followed in the practice of athletic training.
Athletic training encompasses the prevention, examination, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of emergent, acute or chronic injuries and medical conditions. Athletic training Sports Medicine is recognized by the American Medical Association (AMA), Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA) and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as an allied health care profession. The National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) defines an athletic trainer's scope of practice as a patient's physical health, fitness, nutrition, psychological state, and emotional state to the extent that we are allowed. Athletic Trainers will provide preventative rehabilitation, strengthening, and post-injury rehabilitation that approaches the total body health of the student-athlete from a holistic, and evidence-based perspective. It is the responsibility of the athletic training staff to complete comprehensive injury evaluations, refer the student-athlete when necessary to team physicians, and design treatment and rehabilitation plans specific to the needs of the student-athlete.
As allied healthcare professionals, we are required by law to abide by the rules, guidelines, and code of conduct that are mandated by the NATABOC. In return, we expect student-athletes to be active participants in their recoveries in order to get them back to competition as quickly and as safely as possible.

Colorado Christian University Sports Medicine is committed to excellence in their field and hold themselves to a high standard of care and character as outlined in their department mission statement:
The Colorado Christian University Sports Medicine staff strives to create an environment in which student-athletes may receive the best care possible involving all domains of their health as defined by the NATABOC and within Colorado state law. Care will be provided to all regardless of race, ethnicity, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, gender, or sport. The Sports Medicine staff will educate and encourage student-athletes and coaches to develop and maintain a healthy lifestyle. We believe that athletic training is a ministry, and we trust that the Lord has clearly shown each of us how we may honor him with the talents he has given us within and outside athletic training.
And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.
Colossians 3:23-24
