Cougars Dominate Adams State to Earn Weekend Sweep

Making quick work of Adams State, the Cougars used a dominant first half and cruised to victory 81-49 Saturday in Alamosa.

There would be no let-up from Colorado Christian Saturday night, making sure they took care of business against the struggling Grizzlies in convincing fashion. CCU wasted no time, either, jumping out to a 10-0 lead to start the game.

By the end of the first 20 minutes of action the Cougars had amassed a 25 point lead and the result was all but a formality.

"This game was a lot of fun," explained junior point guard Taylor Torres. "We came out with strong ball movement and made them work for 40 minutes"

Christian held the host Grizzlies to a mere five made field goals on 33 attempts, a 15% clip from the field while only allowing 15 points.

The visiting Cougars not only forced ASU into tough shots, their authority on the glass assured that Adams State wouldn't get any second chances. CCU out-rebounded Adams 47-26 while only allowing eight second chance points.

Leading the way for the blue and gold was Ali Meyer, who carried over her impressive play from the night before. The freshman snatched 11 boards, a game high, and her second consecutive night of double digit rebounds. Meyer added 15 points and three steals to her line, proving her versatility on both ends of the floor.

Kate Louthan was another that contributed in a big way. The junior from Colorado Springs had 14 points, five rebounds, six assists, and four blocks.

In addition to their aggressiveness on the glass, the Cougars took that same mentality on offense. Christian took just 12 3-point attempts on the night, instead attacking the rim and putting pressure on ASU defenders. CCU went to the free throw line 41 times, connecting on 32 of them and in the process, fouling out four Grizzlies.

With two wins this weekend, Colorado Christian earned their eighth conference victory, and moves into fifth place in the RMAC.

"We had a great team efffort this weekend. It felt amazing to get a sweep on the road!"

Winners of four of the last five, the Cougars will return home next week to face two opponents on opposite ends of the RMAC standings. CCU will face off against Western State on Friday before taking on the Mavericks of Colorado Mesa Saturday night in Lakewood.
