CCU took to the court on Sunday afternoon looking for their third consecutive win as they took on Midwestern State University in the final day of the Marriot Champions Circle Pioneer Premiere. In their best defensive effort this year, they defeated the Mustangs by a final score of 50-27. This was the third win this week for Colorado Christian, and will be a great way to head into the holiday break.
The Cougs defense shined bright in the first half, as Midwestern State was unable to get anything going against the suffocating coverage. In fact, the Pioneers went without a field goal in the second period and finished the first half with only eight points total. At the break, the lead was 21-8. The second half was similar, as CCU outscored the Pioneers 29-19 to finish out the 50-27 victory.
The Cougars were led on the day by the strong play of
Claire Paxton. Paxton finished the game with 11 points, and had three rebounds, two steals and two blocks.
Ali Meyer continued to be a force on the inside as she scored nine points and grabbed nine rebounds.
Taylor Torres led the team in assists with six in the game.
During the two day tournament, the Cougars outscored their opponents by a score of 107-77.
Claire Paxton and
Ali Meyer were both named to the all-tournament team for their outstanding play in both games.

th when they will take on Colorado School of Mines to open up conference play. The game will be held at the CCU Event Center with tip-off scheduled for 5PM MST.
