Colorado Christian started slowly in both games of Monday's doubleheader and couldn't recover, falling 12-4 and 12-5 to Colorado Mines as the visiting squad wrapped the four-game sweep.
Â
Christian faced early deficits in both contests as the visiting Orediggers hung six runs on the board in the first inning in game one, and followed with a five-run first in game two to put the Cougars in catch-up mode from the outset.
Â
Sophomores
Austin Atkerson (1-7) and
Danny Graves (2-2) would shoulder the losses in game one and two, respectively.
Â
Christian didn't do themselves any favors with their defensive struggles, committing four errors in each game to give the Orediggers extra base runners and extra chances.
Â
The Cougars were paced at the plate by freshman
Jerry Gallegos and sophomore
Zach Scott. Gallegos totaled three hits and three RBI on the day, while Scott tallied four hits to raise his average to a team-leading .360.
Â
Senior
Mark McMahon, inserted into the starting lineup in the nightcap, collected a pair of hits and drove in a run.
Â
The Cougars will try to end their skid in the final regular season series of 2015. Christian will face the Roadrunners of MSU Denver at All-Star Park beginning Friday at noon.
