The Lady Cougars grabbed their first win of the season on Saturday afternoon taking down the University of Nebraska Kearney 75-65.
Â
CCU's game plan was evident after the first half; play the ball inside. It resulted in a strong win against the Lopers, and the Cougs thrived off inside shooting. Blue and gold went on a powerful run in the first quarter taking the lead 8-1 and then never letting it go through the next three quarters.
Â
The Lopers were behind and tried desperately to catch up to Christian, but could not hit the baskets they needed to gain the lead. With a team full of shooters, UNK worked the perimeter well, but only went 8-25 from the three point line. Ultimately, the Lopers demise was their turnovers with 15. The Cougs scored 23 points off of Kearney's turnovers. Scoring high points for the Lopers was #5 guard Michaela Barry with 13, and UNK's bench had 30 points total in the game.
Â
Colorado Christian's starters played with passion, urgency, and control throughout the entire competition. #1
Alex Nelson scored 17 points with five rebounds. #4
Kaitlyn Hinch had 14 points and eight assists, and scored the Cougars only three pointers going 2-2. Senior #33
Mikala Gordon had 15 points and a team high of eight rebounds. Forward senior #10
Claire Paxton went 9-13 with 18 points. Paxton had no threes or free throws in the game, but banked 69.2% of her field goals taken.

CCU is now 1-2 early in the year and will continue their next game at Cameron University in Canyon, Texas on Nov. 25
