The Cougars faced off against Eckerd College on Saturday afternoon but were defeated by a final score of 12-0. Eckerd was able to take a commanding lead early in the game with a five run second inning, which was more than enough for the Eckerd pitching staff which only surrendered three hits in the game. This was the final game for the team down in Florida as they will now head back home briefly, before heading to Oklahoma for their next games.
Â
Colorado Christian were able to get some traffic on base during the first two innings of the game thanks to a couple of hits and a couple of walks, but they were unable to get the clutch hit to get on the scoreboard. Eckerd got on the board in the second inning as they scored five runs with two outs and eventually chased CCU starter
Evan Fink from the game. The Tritons scored one more in the third inning to boost their lead to 6-0, which remained the score until the bottom of the sixth when they had another big inning and scored five more runs. They finished the scoring off in the eighth inning when they scored one more run to give them the 12-0 lead which ended up being the final score.
Â
CCU hitters were unable to figure out the Triton pitching staff throughout the entire game as they kept them off balance throughout. After a
Ben Gooch single with two outs in the second inning, The Cougars went hitless until
Jack Nelson led off the eighth inning with a single up the middle.
Â
The loss drops the Cougars to 2-5 on the year. They will look to bounce back next weekend (Feb. 19-20) as they will be traveling down to Claremore, Oklahoma to take on Rogers State University in a three game series. First pitch on Friday will be scheduled for 2PM MST.
