Women's Basketball faced their last home game of the season to New Mexico Highlands University on Saturday night. They were able to add one more win to their record defeating the Cowgirls 75-41.
Â
The Cougars played like it was their last game of the year, with all out intensity and hustle. The team was working hard in honor of their four seniors (Louthan, Torres, Crawford, and Bargallo), who would see their home court for the last time.
Â
CCU jumped in front of the Cowgirls right away and stayed consistent throughout the whole game. Â New Mexico struggled offensively against Christian and couldn't protect the ball against blue and gold's height. CCU outshot and outrebounded Highlands in the first half shooting 50%-16% FG, 33%-20% from three, and having 28-21 rebounds. Â The first half was dominated by Colo. Christian who went into the locker room being up 35-16.Â
Â
The second half continued in CCU's favor as they went on to win the game by 34 points. CCU ended shooting 53% from the field, 27% three, and 59% from the line. Â
Â
Four-year seniors,
Kate Louthan had 16 points and
Taylor Torres scored 11. Both had three assists on the night. Â
Ali Meyer had another double-double vs Highlands with 10 rebounds and 13 points, and transfer senior
Leisha Crawford had four steals. We were also able to see looks from bench players like
Nicole Lehrer (2pts),
Ariadna Bargallo (2blks),
Jordan Baer (4pts), Lyndie Pucket (3pts), and
Mikala Gordon (4pts).
Â
It was a great game for the Women's Basketball team to recognize their decorated seniors. CCU will be away for the rest of conference play with CSU-Pueblo up next on Friday Feb. 19
th 5:30 PM.
