Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Cougars Lose Last Conference Game

CCU Women's Basketball had their last conference game vs Colorado School of Mines on Friday night. They were defeated by 11 points 81-70. Going into the game, Mines had already clinched the #1 seed for the RMAC Tournament with a record of 18-3. CCU was also guaranteed a spot in the tournament, but was still fighting to add another win to the season and help their chances in the playoffs.

The last time these two teams faced each other was back in December in the RMAC opener. The game went into overtime and ended in a loss for Christian by one point 64-63. Both squads have been through a lot since then, and have grown into two leading teams in the conference. The game was consistent with their history being fast-paced and back and forth on the scoreboard.

Colorado Christian came out on top in the first half 41-37. Leading up to half-time, CCU played well, but Mines continued to stay above them by a few points. With five minutes left, the Orediggers had a 12 point lead on the Cougars 37-25. It didn't look good for blue and gold with CSM executing so well, but Colo. Christian stopped Mines from making another bucket the rest of the half. The Cougars rallied and scored 16 points in those last five minutes. CCU shot 53% FG, 60% 3FG, 67% FT.

The second half started off with Christian continuing to lead, until about three minutes in where the Orediggers overcame CCU's stronghold and jumped in front at 45-44. Colorado Christian fought hard, but the gap grew larger as the minutes ran down on the clock. The Cougs shooting plummeted to a low 29% FG and 21% 3FG. Mines scored 23 points in the third quarter compared to blue and gold's 17. CCU was only able to get 12 more points in the fourth quarter, which wasn't enough to take the win. Mines finished the game 81-70.

Cougar leaders in the game were Kate Louthan and Ali Meyer both with 17 points and eight rebounds. Louthan had four assists, one block, and two steals. Meyer had an outstanding five blocks on defense. Taylor Torres scored 13, and Claire Paxton had 12 for blue and gold. The Cougars shot 41% from the field, 32% from three, and 67% from the line.

Colorado Christian Women's Basketball will now be playing in the RMAC playoffs starting Tuesday March 1st vs Black Hills State University in Spearfish, SD.
