Colorado Christian took to the floor on Thursday afternoon to take on familiar foe Oklahoma Baptist in the second round of the NCCAA Championships in Winona Lake, IN. This is the second meeting between these two teams in the past week as they squared off in the Regional Championship game hosted at the CCU Event Center. The Cougars needed overtime to get past the Bison in Lakewood, but utilized a strong offensive performance in the second half to pull away and send them to the National Championship game which will be held on Saturday Mar. 19
th at 12PM MST.
The first quarter saw both defenses playing well and keeping the offensives in check. At the end of one, the game remained tied, 11-11. The second quarter was similar to the first but the offenses started to warm up a little bit, and heading into the half, CCU had a slim two point lead 29-27. The Cougar offense exploded in the third quarter as they tallied 28 points and took an 11 point lead heading into the final quarter. Christian kept their foot on the gas as they remained in front and finished out the victory by a final score of 83-69, sending them to the championship game on Saturday.
Four Cougars finished the game with double figure points led by
Kate Louthan who scored 17. Louthan also led the team in rebounds with 10 to secure the double-double.
Ali Meyer had 13 points and also grabbed eight rebounds.
Kaitlyn Hinch and
Taylor Torres each finished with 12 points and three assists. Hinch also made an impact on the defensive end as she had four steals in the game.
CCU will be squaring off against the second seed in the tournament Roberts Wesleyan. The winner will be crowned the 2016 NCCAA National Champion. Tip is scheduled for 12PM MST.
