CCU Softball split with Metro State University on Sunday afternoon winning game one of the series 5-1, and then dropping the second game 10-1. The Cougars are now 10-28 on the year, and are looking forward to taking on the Roadrunners on Monday afternoon for the last two games of the series.
Â
It was a beautiful day at Lakewood Park and the Colorado Christian Cougars came out strong in their first game playing outstanding softball against the #2 team in the RMAC.
Tana Feiner (7-12) was back on the mound for blue and gold and looked sharper than ever striking out 10 Roadrunners, and only giving up four hits, and one run. With Feiner at the helm, the Cougars confidence was through the roof, and the offense matched their resilient defense.
Â
Christian had 11 hits in game one and scored five runs. The first run was scored in the bottom of the first frame; unearned due to a throwing error by MSU's shortstop. The second run was off a
Charlotte Romero double down the left field line, running in
Hanna Farmer, and then
Carly Perry hit a sac fly to run in
Kristina Billante. Both in the bottom of the third inning.
Kristina Billante would have a single that would score
Stephanie Tatham in the fourth frame, and then their final run was in the sixth by
Hanna Farmer.
Â
Leaders for the Cougs in game one were
Kristina Billante who went 3-3 with one run, and one RBI.
Charlotte Romero would go 2-3 with one RBI, and
Hanna Farmer would hit 2-3 scoring three runs.
Carly Perry went 0-3, but had the game high of two RBI's.
Stephanie Tatham would have a killer double hit in the bottom of the fourth, and finished the game 1-3 with one run. CCU finished the game with a W 5-1.
Â
Game two was won by Metro's strong pitching. MSU's Hayley Fields (14-3) shortened the game to five innings striking out seven Cougs and allowing no more than four hits, and one run that was unearned (catcher's interference). Metro would go on to win the game with 12 hits and 10 runs.
Shelby Diffenderfer would take the loss (3-8) pitching three innings, giving up 11 hits, 10 runs, and striking out one.
Jennie Winston would also make an appearance pitching two innings, giving up one hit. The Cougars offense could not connect, and the game would end on run rule after the bottom of the fifth inning 10-1 MSUD.
Â
CCU will continue the series against the Roadrunners on Monday, April 4
th at Lakewood Park. First pitch will be set for 2:00 PM.
