Baseball Splits Doubleheader on Senior Day

Colorado Christian wrapped up their 2016 campaign on Friday as they played a doubleheader against Metro State. The Cougars earned a split in the two game set as they won game one 8-7, but lost the second game by a final score of 12-3. It was senior day at the ballpark, as CCU fans bid a fond farewell to seven seniors on the team.

Game One:
Danny Graves got the start for the Cougs in game one as he was one of the seniors being honored on the day. Graves took full advantage of the day and had his best start of the year in route to earning his third victory of the season, and second win this week. Graves went 7 1/3rd in the game allowing just five hits and struck out a career high 10 batters. He outdueled the Roadrunners ace, and baffled the Metro State offense throughout. Daniel Bednarski came in and closed the game out to earn his second save of the season.

Offensively, CCU was led by Jerry Gallegos, Branden Amenta and Dakota Bayles. Gallegos finished the game going 3-5 with a homerun and three RBI. Amenta also finished with three hits in the game as he went 3-4 with a double and two RBI. Bayles went 2-3 and scored three runs in the game.

Game Two:
Ryan Erazo got the start for the final time in the second game, but unfortunately things did not go his way in the game. He battled throughout the game as he pitched into the sixth inning, but the Metro offense had the upper hand. His final line was 5 1/3rd innings pitched giving up 11 hits and struck out four.

The Cougars finished the game with a combined 13 hits, but were only able to score three runs in the game. Brandon Hesselberg went 2-4 with a triple. Branden Amenta also finished the game 2-4 with a double. Jack Nelson went a perfect 3-3 with a run scored, and Chance Richardson went 2-2 with a double.

The Cougars finish up the season 11-35 overall, and 5-27 in conference play. Daniel Bednarski, Ryan Erazo, Danny Graves, Matt Lewis, Pete McWilliams, Alistair Reynolds, and Weston Wiederhold were all honored prior to the start of the second game. All seven seniors have had a tremendous impact on the program over the past few years, and will be missed by everyone around the team.
