Colorado Christian too to their home court on Tuesday night to take on the seventh ranked team in the nation in CSU-Pueblo. The Thunderwolves lived up to the hype, as they ran away with the victory by a final score of 80-61. CSUP came into the game with a perfect 17-0 record, as they are one of only four teams in Division II that have not lost a game yet.
Â
The Cougs scored the opening basket of the game, but then CSUP then went on an 11-2 run which gave them the early edge. With just under five minutes to play in the first quarter, the CCU deficit reached double-digits as the score sat at 17-7. The Cougs finished the quarter strong on offense, but were unable to cut into the CSU-Pueblo lead as they were able to match them on their end. At the end of the first, the score was 28-17 in favor of the Pack.
Â
The second quarter began just like the first, as the Thunderwolves went on a 10-2 scoring run to open the second, and extend their lead out further. The Cougar defense was able to slow CSUP down a little on offense for the rest of the quarter, but at halftime they trailed 51-32.
Â
Colorado Christian showed a lot of heart in the second half, as they never gave up and continued to fight hard despite the score. CCU played good defense in the second half as they were able to hold the RMAC's number one scoring team to just 29 points combined in the second half. Despite the stingy defense, the Cougs were unable to shoot themselves back into the game as they eventually fell by a final score of 80-61.
Â
CCU had four players finish the game in double figures in the game led by
Mikala Gordon who had a team high 14 points.
Alex Nelson finished with 13 points and also had one block and two steals.
Kaitlyn Hinch had 12 points in the game and grabbed five rebounds.
Jordan Baer had a very efficient game offensively as she finished with 10 points on 3-4 shooting from the floor. Baer also led the team in rebounds with six, and blocks with two.
Â
With the loss, the Cougars record now sits at 7-10 overall, and 5-7 in conference play. The Cougs will be back in action this upcoming weekend as they travel to Las Vegas, NM to take on New Mexico Highlands University. That game will take place on Saturday Jan. 21
st, and the tip is set for 5PM MST.
