Lady Cougs Delt Loss at Chadron

The Lady Cougs took their second conference loss on Monday night to Chadron State College.  After an underwhelming first quarter, CCU fell short to the Eagles 80-69.

CCU junior forward Jordan Baer started the Cougs off with two layups and a jumper totaling six points, but the Eagles offense was too quick and sharp outscoring the Cougars 21-9 in the first quarter.

The next three quarters displayed a much better performance from blue and gold as they started to find their groove.  Senior Haley Shaner made a couple of three's in the second quarter that helped close the gap, and then point guard Sarah Holt was able to find the hoop in the third and fourth quarters.  CCU outscored Chadron in the fourth quarter 28-23, but it wasn't enough to get the win.

Head Coach Corey Laster remarked "Chadron was a solid improved team from last season.  They played really well together and had good execution offensively.  Our effort wasn't good enough for three quarters, and we struggled in our shooting and finishing".

The Eagles shared effort offensively was a huge asset for them, but the Cougars were able to shoot better from the three-point line at 38%, while CSC was 25%.

Haley Shaner led CCU with 29 points going 8-13, 5-7 3FG, and 8-8 from the line.  She also tied with Jordan Baer in a high for rebounds with five.  Baer played in every minute of the game and totaled eight points and four assists.  Sarah Holt scored 15 points shooting perfect from the line making 4-4.

CCU will host their home opener vs South Dakota School of Mines on Friday 12/8 at 5:00 PM.
