Women's Basketball went on the road this weekend and started it off strong with a victory against Adams State University 87-73.
Â
After the first quarter, the Cougs kicked it into gear with
Alex Nelson at the forefront of their success. CCU was down 16-13 going into the second, and stayed down until there were only three minutes left in the half where Christian gained the lead 33-32. They kept control from there on out and attacked the Grizzles with all they had.
Â
The Cougs had 45 points in the paint, 17 fast breaks, and 21 points off ASU's turnovers. Nelson led all scorers with 26 points shooting 7-13, 1-2 from three, and 11-12 from the line. She totaled a team high of eight rebounds. CCU seniors
Claire Paxton and
Mikala Gordon both had 16 points.
Â
The Lady Cougs settled in by gaining ten points on the Grizzles in the third quarter. Nelson scored 12 points in the second quarter and 11 in the third. This pretty much solidified the win for Christian. Adams attempted a few comebacks, but was consistently shut down with a couple Cougar buckets in retaliation. CCU won the game 87-73 shooting 47% FG, 44% 3FG, and 83% FT.
Â
Colo. Christian will be traveling to Colorado State University Pueblo on Saturday, 2/18 for a 5:30 PM start.
