Day two of the Lady Chap Invitational fared well for the Cougars as they repeated another win against Texas-Permian Basin 6-0. It was a different game than on opening day where CCU and UPTB battled it out hit for hit, run for run, all the way to the seventh inning where CCU came out on top 8-7.
Today's game was a shut out by Colorado Christian, thanks to a strong performance by the Cougs pitching staff:
- Starting pitcher Kelsea Sweeney (2-0) took the win for Christian throwing 4.2 innings, with five hits, one walk, and two strike-outs.
- Sarah Probasco made a short one inning appearance on the mound successfully making four fly outs.
- Closer, Kenzie Mattey gave up one hit, and struck out two Falcons in the top of the seventh.
UTPB put Christian's defense to the test in the first inning as they loaded the bases with only one out. The Cougars covered the bunt well as first baseman
Sarah Probasco threw the Falcon runner out at home to prevent any runs on the scoreboard. The inning ended with a ground out to Sweeney on the mound.
After the first inning, the Falcons were silent on offense. They totaled six hits in the game and left eight on base. CCU had ten hits and three great innings, scoring one in the third and one in the fourth, and then four runs in the fifth.
CCU's
Jennie Winston played in right field against UTPB, and went 2-3 with one run and two RBI's.
Hanna Farmer,
Charlotte Romero,
Haley Anderson, and
Sarah Probasco all had an RBI. Farmer was walked twice and went 1-2 at the plate with one run. Romero hit 2-3, Anderson 1-2, and Probasco was walked going 0-3.
The Lady Cougars are 3-0 this season, and will face off against Northwestern Oklahoma University Sunday, Feb. 5
th. CCU defeated NOSU on opening day 9-2, and are looking for another victory over the Rangers.
