Colorado Christian finished their series in Grand Junction on Sunday afternoon as they played Colorado Mesa for the second time in two days. CCU had an early lead, but were unable to hold onto it as they eventually fell to the 15
th ranked Mavericks by a final score of 12-10. The Cougs made a late rally to regain the lead, but fell just short in the end.

After a tough loss the day before, the Cougars came out ready to play against the 15
th ranked team in the nation. Mesa jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after one inning, but Christian fired back in the second inning and jumped out in front.
Dillon Mctague evened up the score as he belted a double to left center field which scored
Alex Ginn who had singled to begin the inning.

Colorado Mesa was able to tie things up in the third inning, but once again the Cougs responded to regain the lead.
Dillon Mctague once again came through in the fourth inning and blasted a homerun to right field scoring
Austin Maltby. It marked the third homerun of the season for Mctague, and his second in less than a week. The homerun gave Christian a 4-2 lead going into the bottom of the fourth inning.

Between the fourth through seventh innings, Mesa flexed their muscles on offense, and showed why they are currently ranked #15. They scored two runs in the fourth to tie the score 4-4, then erupted to score five runs in the fifth inning to give them a 9-4 lead. CCU scored once in the sixth, but Mesa matched it by scoring a run of their own in the bottom half. The Mavericks added two more runs onto their lead in the seventh inning, which gave them a 12-5 lead over the Cougs heading into the final two innings of play.

Despite the seven run deficit, the Cougs came to the plate in the eighth inning looking to get back into the game, which is exactly what they did.
Kaleb Johnson got the scoring started with an RBI single to score
Dillon Mctague. After scoring another run off of a Maverick error, the Cougs took advantage of another mistake by CMU when
Sam Gallegos scored on a wild pitch.
Scotty Wright singled to left which scored
Kaleb Johnson and
Cooper Gray, and brought Colorado Christian within two as they trailed 12-10.

Jarrod Rivera came in and held Mesa in the bottom half of the eighth, which gave CCU a shot heading into the ninth. Unfortunately they could not push any more runs across, and fell to the Mavericks by a 12-10 final score.

Dillon Mctague was the offensive player of the game after going 2-4 with a double, homerun, two runs and three RBI. He also drew a walk in the game.
Kaleb Johnson also finished 2-4 with a run scored and an RBI.
Scotty Wright went 1-4 with two RBI, and
Austin Maltby went 1-3 with a walk and scored three runs.

After the weekend, the CCU record now sits at 13-21 overall and 7-13 in conference play. They will be back in action next weekend as they take on CSU-Pueblo. The series will begin on Thursday April 13
th, and will be held at All Star Park in Lakewood. First pitch will be at 2PM MST.
