CCU Women's Basketball travelled to Durango to face the Skyhawks of Fort Lewis College on January 27
th, with a 1:00pm start time. The Cougars were unable to stop the number one scoring offense in the RMAC, and lost with a final score of 74-43.
Coming into the game CCU was 6-12 overall and 4-9 in conference, holding the 11
th spot in the RMAC standings. Fort Lewis was 16-4 overall, 10-4 in conference, and tied for the 2
nd place spot in the RMAC rankings.
The game started out in the Skyhawks favor, as a three pointer was made within the first ten seconds of tip-off, and their defense held the Cougars to only 6 points. At the end of the first quarter, Fort Lewis was up by 15.
A new team came out for the Cougars offensively in the second quarter, scoring 16. However the offense from FLC maintained to make the score going into halftime 42-22.
Looking very similar to the first quarter, the third quarter saw the Cougars struggling offensively. They were able to create more options, but this time the shots weren't falling. The Skyhawks outscored the Cougars 16 to 7. The fourth quarter the Cougars put up 14, but the Skyhawks added 16 to seal the win.Â
Leading the Cougars in scoring was
Sarah McGinley with 9, followed by
Jordan Baer with 8. The pair also lead the team in rebounds, McGinley with 9 and Baer with 7.
The loss gives the Cougars an overall record of 6-13, and 4-10 in RMAC play. The Cougars next three games will be played at home, starting on February 2
nd against Chadron State with a tip-off of 5pm.
