The Lady Cougs ended their first preseason tournament- The Desert Stinger- with a close win vs Texas Women's 4-3.
On the mound for the Cougs was redshirt junior #8
Kenzie Mattey. Mattey's incredible 6.2 inning performance led to five strikeouts, allowing five hits and three runs of which only one was earned. The Cougars defense made a couple of costly errors at third and second base allowing two unearned runs. Despite the hiccups in the field, CCU's offense was able to get it done at the plate and on the bases.
CCU junior and All-American athlete
Charlotte Romero impressed in her at-bats. Romero went 4-4 with two RBI's. She hit a double into left field in the first inning allowing
Kendall Yasui to score and then she did it again in the third inning, running in
Hanna Farmer. With only one out in the third inning
Shelby Fusich singled through the left side, and then
Alyssa Hanks double down the left line.
Stephanie Day stepped up to bat and hit a solid through the middle getting one more run. In the second inning, Texas Women's scored two runs of their own. The score was 3-2 Cougars.
The fourth frame was silent, but in the fifth TWU scored an unearned run off a throwing error tying it up 3-3. But like she has done so many times before in her career CCU senior catcher
Amy Edison hit a timely home run into right center field eventually winning the game for blue and gold 4-3.
