Shooter McGinley Strikes Again

Making their mark and breaking their losing streak, the Cougars offense came out on top against the Cowgirls of New Mexico Highlands with a final score of 71-55. The dynamic duo of Sarah McGinley and Jordan Baer led the charge after both scoring double digits.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The game started out with the teams trading leads, but a three from Brianna Pribble closed out the first quarter to give the Cougars a 4 point lead, 18-14.

The Cowgirls came into the second quarter and took advantage of their free throw opportunities to take the lead with six minutes left. The trend continued and the teams were still tied up with two minutes left. Colorado Christian then went on a 6-0 lead after a couple layups from Brooke Zimmerman and a pair of free throws from Davenport Brantley, putting the Cougars up 38-32 going into halftime. At the seventeen minute mark Sarah McGinley had 17 points to lead both teams at the half.

Coming into the third quarter the Colorado Christian defense shut down the New Mexico Highlands offense after holding them to only 9 points. The Cougars had their greatest lead of the game in the third quarter when they were up by 19, 53-34. The Cowgirls did not give up yet and rallied back for a 10 point run that started at the end of the third quarter and carried into the fourth.

The Cougars offense continued to fight and went up by 19 again with five minutes left. Closing out the game, Colorado Christian took the win by 16.

GAME LEADERS: Breaking her career high points for the second time this season, Sarah McGinley tallied 27 points and had a career high of 3's after going 7-9. McGinley is now tied for second in the RMAC for the most 3's in a game this year. Jordan Baer was the only other Cougar in double digits after scoring 21 and leading the team in rebounds with 7. A couple notable stats included Davenport Brantley dealing 8 assists, and Maris Tsoungui with 4 steals.

UP NEXT: The win gives the Cougars an overall record of 6-7 and an RMAC record of 4-3. Traveling to South Dakota next weekend for another pair of games the team will play at Black Hills State University on Friday the 11th at 5:30pm, and South Dakota School of Mines on Saturday the 12th at 3:30pm.
