Weekend of Wins for Women's Basketball

Securing their second win of the weekend, the Cougars came away with the win against Adams State University in Alamosa on Saturday, February 9th. Last time the teams met a couple weeks back the Grizzlies won by 19. Colorado Christian sealed their win by 4 tonight with a final score of 76-72.  

HOW IT HAPPENED: The first quarter was back and forth with lead changes, but the Cougars kept the lead at the end by 3, 18-15. The second quarter the team was able to pull away at their lead, with the greatest difference being 11. Going into the locker rooms Colorado Christian led by 9, 37-28. After going 4-5 from beyond the arc, Sarah McGinley led the team in scoring at the half with 16 points.

The only quarter where the Grizzlies outscored the Colorado Christian was in the third, when Adams State scored 22 to the Cougars 17. Both teams played even in the fourth, both scoring 22. The teams were back and forth with the leads the entire time, with the score tied 6 times. The score was last tied up at 68 with a little over three minutes left. Coming in clutch with their free throws, the Cougars made 6 to put them ahead in the final few minutes.

GAME LEADERS: Finishing with 24 points, Sarah McGinley led the team in scoring. Also in the double digits included Jordan Baer and Madison Price with 16 and 14 respectively. Price, who holds the four spot in the conference for blocks, tallied 3 of them in tonight's win. The leading scorers also led in rebounds to give them a double-double on the night – McGinley with 13 and Baer with 11.

Jordan Baer and Sarah McGinley hold numerous top spots in the RMAC stat standings. Baer currently holds second place scoring, sixth in rebounds, second in field goal percentage, and second in minutes. McGinley holds the eight spot for scoring, first in 3 point field goal percentage, and third in 3's per game.

UP NEXT: The win gives the Cougars an overall record 11-12 and a conference record of 9-8. The team will host their final home weekend of the season beginning on Friday, February 15th when they host Colorado Mesa at 5pm.
