After traveling down the road to play at MSU Denver, Colorado Christian finished the day with a split in their doubleheader against the Roadrunners.
GAME 1: W 2-1
Taking the first game slowly but surely, the Cougars held strong and played through to take the first win of the day. Both teams were slow to get their bats going, and both teams played strong defensively to keep the game steady. The Roadrunners were the first on the board after taking advantage of an error in the bottom of the third to score a single run.
Colorado Christian responded in the next inning by also scoring a single run after taking advantage of an error. Kendall Yasui was walked, advanced to third after Stephanie Day reached on an error, then scored on a sac fly from Kacie Burger to tie up the game 1-1.
The fifth inning saw both teams going three up three down, but the Cougars notched in a single run in the sixth to take the lead and the win. With two outs, Stephanie Day stepped up and singled. McKenna Gordon stepped in to pinch run for Day, and was brought home after a clutch double from Charlotte Romero.
Both teams only had three hits, but the Cougars were able to come out on top. Kenzie Mattey finished with the win after pitching the entire game, giving her an overall record of 6-3.
GAME 2: L 4-7
Now that both teams were warmed up the second game got going a little faster, with both teams scoring a single run in the first. Hanna Farmer started the game off with a single then stole second. She advanced to third after a single from Kendall Yasui, who also stole second. Farmer then scored after Stephanie Day reached on a fielder's choice.
The next couple innings were quiet for both teams, but the fourth got going when the Cougars scored another single run and the Roadrunners responded with 2. Jamie Romero hit a homerun to left center to put Colorado Christian ahead. Going into the fifth, the Cougars were down 3-2.
Colorado Christian got going quick and scored after their second batter. Yasui singled and was brought home after a double from Day. Day then advanced to third on a ground out, and scored after a single from Kacie Burger. MSU Denver had their best inning in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead after scoring 4 runs. The Cougars were unable to come back and took the loss with a final score of 7-4. Jennifer Romero pitched almost the entire game and took the loss, giving her a record of 3-2.
UP NEXT: The split on the day gives the team an overall record of 10-6 and an RMAC record of 4-2. The team is tentatively set to play the Roadrunners again tomorrow, March 2nd at 11am and 1pm, but with forecasted snow it is subject to change.
