Opening up their first official home weekend, Colorado Christian made sure to start things right on their home field with two run rule wins against Chadron State.
GAME 1: 8-0 (6 innings)
Setting the tone for the day the Cougars started out the game strong defensively with three up three down. Putting the team on the board with some grit, Kacie Burger hit a homerun off the first pitch of the second inning. The next run of the inning came after Shelby Fusich was hit by the pitch, advanced to second on a sac bunt from Carly Perry, and came home after a single from Caitlin McCarthy to put the Cougars up 2-0 going into the third.
With a solid fifth inning on both sides from Colorado Christian, the team faced three Eagles in the top and scored four runs in the bottom of the inning. Kacie Burger got the runs started again after hitting a single, advancing to second on a ground out, and coming home after a double from Jamie Romero. Caitlin McCarthy was hit by the pitch followed by Hanna Farmer walking to load the bases. Kendall Yasui then hit a 3 RBI triple to give the team a comfortable lead of 6-0.
Kacie Burger was yet again the first one to score in the sixth inning, after reaching on a fielder's choice and then advancing after Shelby Fusich walked. Jamie Romero and Caitlin McCarthy then hit back to back singles to bring home Burger and Fusich to finish the game with the run rule.
The Cougars were strong across the board offensively and played clean defensively to secure the shutout. Kenzie Mattey pitched the entire game to earn her 11th win, only allowing 3 hits.
GAME 2: 8-0 (5 innings)
Coming into the second game, Jennifer Romero got the Cougars going with two strikeouts in the first inning. It didn't take long for the team to get on the board after 3 runs in the second inning. Charlotte Romero kicked it off with a double, then advanced to third on a passed ball. Shelby Fusich was then hit by the pitch for the second time today, and was followed by a big three run homer from Carly Perry.
Jennifer Romero then struck out two of the three batters she faced in the top of the third before Colorado Christian scored a couple more runs in the bottom of the inning. Kendall Yasui was the first to score after walking, then advanced to second after Stephanie Day was hit by the pitch. Charlotte Romero then singled to bring home Yasui, followed by a double from Kacie Burger to finish out the inning and bring home Day.
With three up three down again in the top of the fourth, the Cougars scored another pair of runs in the bottom of the inning. Caitlin McCarthy singled and Kendall Yasui walked to put runners on first and second. They were both brought home after Stephanie Day singled, but after a couple errors she advanced to third and both runners made it home to put Colorado Christian up 7-0 going into the fifth.
Yet again Jennifer Romero only faced three batters to start the inning. Scoring the final run of the game to close out the back to back run rules, Carly Perry hit a triple then was brought home by a single from Piper Lujan.
UP NEXT: The two wins on the day gives the team an overall record of 18-7, and an RMAC record of 12-2. The two teams will face off again tomorrow, March 24th at 11am and 1pm.
