Cougars Drop Series Verse Pueblo

The Cougar baseball team wrapped up their season series against the Thunderwolves of CSU Pueblo today, losing both games 1-4 and 2-7. The Colorado Christian loses drop the Cougars record to 7-18 and just 2-10 in RMAC play so far in 2019.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

GAME THREE: CCU 1, CSUP 4

The Sunday opener was decided early, as the Cougars only run was scored in the 2nd inning which tied the game at one each, and was followed by CSU Pueblo scoring a pair in the bottom of the 3rd, an amount that would eventually prove to be enough to earn the win. Both teams recorded seven hits with the Cougars working three walks to Pueblos one, the difference was the Thunderwolves ability to string together walks and hits to move baserunners.

Cougar starting pitcher Justin Kiedinger went 7 1/3 innings, allowing six hits and three earned runs, an amount normally good enough to earn a win, instead, Kiedinger was tagged with his second loss of the season.

GAME FOUR: CCU 2, CSUP 7

The series finalle, a seven-inning contest, was completed in just under two hours, but was essentially decided after the first inning when Pueblo scored three runs. Then Thunderwolves would tack on four more runs over the course of the next four innings, before the Cougars would manage their only two runs of the game in the top of the 6th inning.  Evan Fink and Kyler Riordan split pitching duties in the final game where six of the seven runs were earned, striking out two and walking another two.

WHAT IS NEXT:

The Cougars will travel to Grand Junction, CO, to take on Colorado Mesa University, currently ranked second in the nation, in a four-game series. Friday will be a single game, Saturday a doubleheader, and another single game on Sunday to cap off the series.
