The CCU baseball traveled to Colorado Springs on a rare sunny day to take on the Mountain Lions of UCCS in their first official RMAC contest of the 2019 season. Colorado Christian would eventually fall to UCCS by a score of 6-15, dropping their season record to 5-9 and 0-1 in RMAC play.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Mountain Lions got their offensive going early and effectively. They opened things up with a single unearned run in the second inning, but truly figured out Cougar starter Connor McCullum in the 3rd inning when they hung seven runs on the board on seven hits. After that onslaught, Cougar reliever Tyler Henning came in and calmed things down for an inning before the Mountain Lions put another pair of runs up in the 5th inning. Another pitching change in the bottom of the 7th when freshman Cameron Manzaneras would make his Cougar pitching debut, but unfortunately UCCS would put up another five runs before Manzaneras was able to record an out and being replaced by Tommy Orr who would close out the game without allowing another baserunner.
Â
Offensively, Hunter Hays and Connor Marschall would record a pair of hits each, including Marschall's first homerun as a Cougar. CCU's most productive inning would come too late when they put up three runs in the top of the 9th inning, which included another homerun, this time by Sam Gallegos, his first collegiate homer.

WHAT IS NEXT: The Cougars return to the Springs for a pair of 7-inning games on Saturday. Game times are slated for 12:00 pm and 3:00 pm at Mountain Lion Park.
