Out-Engineered On Day Two

Coming off of a pair of exciting wins the day before, Colorado Christian was unable to continue their streak on day two of the series as the Orediggers forced the split after taking games three and four.

GAME 1: L 2-10

With a slow start on the day the Cougars were unable to get on the board until the final inning of the game, only tallying one hit in the first four innings of play. Colorado School of Mines had a couple strong innings to put them ahead by 10 runs going into the bottom of the fifth.

Not backing down quite yet, Colorado Christian notched in a pair of runs after Carly Perry doubled and was brought home after a Piper Lujan homerun. Unable to score again, the Cougars took the loss in just five innings. Jennifer Romero pitched the entire game and took the loss to bring her record to 11-5.

GAME 2: 5-8

Coming into the final game of the series, the Cougars were able to carry some of their momentum over from the end of the game three. They held the Orediggers for the first couple innings but Mines was the first on the board with a single run in the third.

Colorado Christian took the lead in the bottom of the third after a pair of runs. Hanna Farmer was the first to score after getting hit by the pitch, stealing second, and scoring off of a single from Kendall Yasui. Yasui then stole second and was brought home after Kacie Burger singled up the middle.

Mines took their lead back after landing 4 runs in the top of the fifth to make the score 5-2. The Cougars scored another pair of runs in the bottom of the inning to shorten the difference to 1. The inning got started with three singles in a row from Kendall Yasui, Stephanie Day, and Charlotte Romero. Yasui scored off of Romero's single, and Day made it home after a sac fly from Kacie Burger.

The Orediggers increased their lead to 4, making the score 8-4 going into the final inning. Stephanie Day hit a homerun for the Cougars final run of the game off of the first pitch in the bottom of the seventh. Makena Martin pitched the entire game and the loss gives her an overall record of 3-3.

UP NEXT: The two losses on the day gives the Cougars an overall record of 29-12 and an RMAC record of 22-6. Traveling to South Dakota for their next series, Colorado Christian will face the Yellow Jackets of Black Hills State for a four game series beginning on Friday, April 19th.
