The Colorado Christian baseball team opened up their final series of the year against the Regis Ranger in Denver today, dropping game one by a score of 0-6 to the pseudo-home team.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Â
The Rangers scored an unearned run in the top of the 1st inning that would ultimately prove to be the game winner. They would go on to score another in the 4th, and a pair in the 6th and 7th to build a comfortable lead. Though the Cougars would threaten with bases loaded twice during the contest, they would be unable to drive any runs in, stranding 10 runners on base.
Sam Gallegos made himself available to score, going 3-4 at the plate, but would never pass second base safely.
Frankie Shearn III would reach base twice, getting stranded at third in the bottom of the 7th. One of Shearn's hits was a bunt single, his 10th time this season reaching base off of a bunt.
Â
Freshman
Drew Kennedy got the start on the mound for the Cougars, just his second career start, and it was an encouraging six innings from the right hander from Flower Mound, Texas. Kennedy allowed just two earned runs, while four defensive errors behind him would allow two more unearned to cross the plate. Another freshman,
JC Watne, a lefty, closed out the final two innings, needing just 20 pitches to sit down the six Rangers he faced, striking out a pair in the process.

The Cougars will be back in Lakewood for their doubleheader day against Regis on Friday, May 3rd. The first game is slated to start at 12:00 p.m. with the second following at 3:00 p.m.
