Starting off their quest for a conference tournament championship, the 2nd seeded Cougars took down the 7th seeded Regis Rangers with a final score of 2-0.

With a quick first inning for both teams, the tone for the game was set in the first inning. Both teams went three up three down to start. But the second inning both teams warmed up a bit, Regis starting it off getting a two runners on. It was single city in the second inning for Colorado Christian, hitting five and scoring one. Caitlin McCarthy was the first to score after she reached on a fielder's choice. She then advanced to second on a single from Carly Perry, and made it home after Shelby Fusich brought her home with a single of her own.

The third inning was just like the first – both teams going three up three down. Kenzie Mattey came alive on the mound, striking out two for three innings in a row. The Cougars second and final run of the game came was again from Caitlin McCarthy in the bottom of the sixth. McCarthy singled, advanced to second as Shelby Fusich walked, then made it home on an RBI single from Jamie Romero.

Kenzie Mattey took her 18th win on the mound after pitching the entire game, striking out 7 batters and not allowing a single run from the Rangers.

UP NEXT: Advancing on to the next round, the Cougars will face the Trailblazers of Dixie State University. Last time the two teams met the teams split. Colorado Christian took the first game in an extra inning, and the next game the Trailblazers took in 5 innings. The rematch and tiebreaker between the two will take place on Friday, May 3rd at 8:30am.
