DURANGO, CO – Colorado Christian traveled down to Durango in hopes on continuing their winning ways against Fort Lewis
The Cougars and Skyhawk's battled back and forth in a high scoring affair, ultimately, a 12 point halftime lead was enough for Fort Lewis to fend off the Cougars last surge and win 72-68.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Cougars trailed for all of the first quarter but went on a 5-2 run at the end of the quarter to put them within four before the Skyhawks pulled away to end the quarter with a seven point lead.
Fort Lewis continued to extend their lead in the second quarter, outscoring the Cougars 19-14 and heading into the half with a 12 point lead. Olivia Christy and Brookelyn Hurlbut both had six points in the first half.
The Cougars came out swinging in the third quarter, scoring 24 points including cutting the lead to as few as four in the quarter but headed into the fourth down by six.
Colorado Christian took the lead for the first time all game with 6:19 seconds left in the fourth off a three point shot from Sam Nunez, the Cougars went back and forth with the Skyhawks, holding a lead as late as the 2:22 mark in the fourth. The Skyhawks pulled away on clutch free throw shooting to end the game, 72-68.
COUGAR LEADERS: Nunez led the team with 14 points, Christy and Hurlbut both had 12. Hurlbut led the team with 10 rebounds and marks the first time this season a Cougar player has recorded a double-double. Nunez, Lourdes Gonzalez, and Taylor Ferris all had three assists.
