Veteran Leadership
With six returning seniors, four of who were consistent starters and two more who saw plenty of playing time, the Cougars are planning on leaning on the veteran players this season in order to navigate the RMAC which is an extremely competitive conference. Brookelyn Hurlbut started all 28 games last season, averaging 8.8 points per game, and had 155 total rebounds. Lourdes Gonzalez played in all 28 games and led the team with 182 rebounds along with averaging 9.8 points per game. Olivia Christy led the team in minutes per game with 33.0 and had the most three point attempts on the team with 159. Sam Nunez was the team's top scorer on the season averaging 12.6 points per game and had 38 steals which was second best on the team.
Continuing To Improve
The Cougars were picked to finish 11th in the RMAC which is one spot higher than last season and the second year in a row they have climbed the preseason poll. Looking to improve on a 10-12 record in conference last season. The conference only schedule should help the Cougars as they 0-6 in non-conference games last season.
Three is Just as Nice
Head Coach Corey Laster brought in three transfers this season, led by Mara Kemmer who is a senior guard transfer from University of Las Vegas Nevada looks to work her way into the starting line-up right away. Christen Curry joins the Cougars from Johnson County Community College. The guard will provide good depth in the backcourt for the Cougars and plans on making an impact from the first game. The final transfer is a player who Coach Laster recruited out of high school. Brooke Gumber is a forward from Gillette College who was a three sport athlete in high school and will bring a powerful post player to the Cougars line-up.
Steady Starter
Brookelyn Hurlbut will once again be a consistent starter for the Cougars, after starting 28 games last season and is in her third season with the Cougars, appearing in 25 or more games every season. As one of the best rebounders on the team, she averaged 5.5 rebounds last season which was second on the team.
