Nationally Ranked Opponent Downs the Cougars

LAKEWOOD, CO – After a close battle between the Vikings and the Cougars, nationally ranked #13 Western Washington took the 58-51 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED – It was a slow start for both teams, the Vikings scoring 10 points and the Cougars tallying four in the first quarter. Both teams played tight defense but also allowed several turnovers.

Western Washington registered a 100 percent free-throw average opposed to Colorado Christian's 33 percent.

Jordyn Brown led the Cougars recording six points and one three-pointer by halftime. Brown was the only Cougar to make a three-pointer in the first two quarters.

The second quarter both teams stepped it up each tallying 12 points. Western Washington hit nine points inside the paint to bring up their score.

Agnes Paul took the lead in rebounds registering four with three defensive rebounds.

Coming into the third quarter the Vikings came out swinging. They had a run of nine points displaying their aggressive offensive skills. This forced Colorado Christian into a timeout early on.
The Cougars notched an 85 percent free-throw average in the third quarter. Paul continued her defensive strategies recording five more rebounds.

Sydney Daniels recorded four field goals out of four attempts, four rebounds, two assist and nine points. Daniels gave the Cougars a chance to catch the Vikings. Colorado Christian stepped up tightening the score 39-34 by the end of the third quarter.

An intense fourth quarter allowed the Cougars to score 17 points and a 63 percent free-throw average. The Cougars gave a hard-fought effort but ended up falling short by seven points.

COUGARS LEADERS

Colorado Christian made 20 points inside paint six of which were made by Haley Hanson and another six of those made by Kamps.

Although it was a slow start, each of the Cougars made a significant difference in the game and contributed to their close game with a nationally ranked team.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Daniels recorded nine points, four rebounds and two assists
  • Paul had eight points and nine rebounds
  • Brown tallied the only three-pointer made by Colorado Christian
  • The Cougars notched 28 rebounds and 20 free-throws
