Cougars Complete Sweep Over ThunderWolves

PUEBLO, CO – The Cougars finished off the sweep of the ThunderWolves this afternoon with two close games that were won by the Cougars with late scores.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

GAME ONE: The first game started as a pitcher's duel, with neither team scoring until the fourth inning when the offensive leader for the Cougars this weekend, Piper Lujan drove in the first run with a double and then scored on an error to give the Cougars a two run lead. CSU Pueblo responded in the bottom of the inning with an RBI groundout.

The Cougars added insurance runs in the top of the seventh with a two RBI single by Caitlin McCarthy to give the Cougars a 4-1 lead that they would not relinquish.

COUGAR LEADERS: McCarthy had two RBI for the Cougars, Lujan had a RBI and a double which was the only extra base hit for the Cougars.

In the circle Jennifer Romero started the game and pitched 3.0 innings with five strikeouts, Samaria Roope pitched the final four innings allowing only one hit and recording the win.

GAME TWO: The Cougars trailed early in game two for the first time in the series as CSU Pueblo scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning.

The Cougars responded quickly in the top of the third with a two RBI single by Kaelin Morkisch followed up by a Kenzie Middleton home run which put the Cougars up 4-2, the Cougars scored twice more in the fourth thanks again to Morkisch pushing the lead to four runs. The ThunderWolves responded with a run in the fifth and in the seventh but it was not enough to overcome the Cougars lead as Colorado Christian left with a 6-4 victory and a sweep.

COUGAR LEADERS: Morkisch had four RBI, and Kenzie Middleton had two RBI and a home run. Kayla Middleton had three hits and two runs scored.
