Extra Innings Win Starts Series with Thunderwolves

PUEBLO, CO – If Friday's series opener was any indication, the next three games on this RMAC set will be filled with plenty of tension.

Despite trailing early then losing the lead, Colorado Christian continued to battle as they registered a 6-4 win in 12 innings against CSU Pueblo.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The pitchers held control of the game early as the home team held a 2-0 lead after five innings. CSU Pueblo scored a run in the first inning on a Ty Lewis sacrifice fly. The Thunderwolves got their second run on another sacrifice fly, this time by Logan Gibbons in the fifth stanza

During those first five inning the Cougars put a runner onto second base twice but couldn't advance them farther along as they were held to a pair hits. On the mound Tyler Henning had solid start as he allowed four hits with four strikeouts to keep the Cougars within striking distance.

Colorado Christian put the first two men on base to start the sixth frame as Blake Mattey and Luke Thompson hit a double and single respectively. Mattey scored on a Russell Cruz double to left centerfield. The Cougars took a 3-2 lead when Caden Walton hit a two-out single which scored Cruz and Thompson. The Cougars lead was short lived as CSU Pueblo tied the game at 3-3 and forced Henning to take a no decision after his best outing of the season.

CSU Pueblo had a chance for the go-ahead run in the seventh frame as they put a runner on third with one out. However, Cougar reliever Tyler Fischer worked out of the situation with a pair of strikeouts to keep the game tied 3-3.

The Cougars took the lead in the 10th stanza when Manny Thompson drove home Cruz with a two-out single. However, CSU Pueblo retied the contest at 4-4 with a one-out RBI by Reggie Williams. Colorado Christian got the lead back for the third time in the 12th inning when Jordan Medina doubled home Tommy Orr. Colorado plated another run in the frame when Medina scored on a wild pitch.
