Colorado Christian Pick Up First Win of the Year

LUBBOCK, TX- The Cougars continued play in Lubbock on Saturday, taking on the University of Texas at Tyler. Led by a strong overall team effort, CCU snagged their first win of the young season by a final score of 71-62.

HOW IT HAPPENED- The shots from beyond the arc were falling early and often, and Regan LoConte got her team going with an early three. Dasiya Jones got in on the action with a three-pointer, and LoConte continued the hot shooting with back-to-back treys to make it 16-5 quickly. Victoria Perez drilled one from deep, and capped the quarter with yet another to take the two teams to the second quarter with CCU leading 24-15.

LoConte could not miss from deep, starting the quarter with her fourth three-pointer already. Perez then nailed consecutive threes as the Cougars lived on hitting shots from downtown. Jones chipped in another three, and a late Perez free throw made it 39-26 in favor of Colorado Christian heading to halftime.

Agnes Paul connected on a jumper early in the half, but points were harder to come by in the quarter for both teams. After the Patriots had closed the gap to 47-44, Nicole Bowlin nailed a trio from the charity stripe to take a 50-44 lead into the final frame.

Makenna Bodette knocked down a pair of free throws as CCU looked to close strong and secure victory. UT Tyler refused to go down easily, closing the gap to 64-58 with 2:17 left in the game. Bodette hit an important trio of free throws with a little over a minute left, and Bowlin closed things out with a pair from the line as the Cougars secured the win by a final score of 71-62.

Victoria Perez led the offense with 19 points while Dasiya Jones poured in 15. Maggie Hutka pulled down 13 rebounds while Agnes Paul and Makenna Bodette snagged seven. Nicole Bowlin facilitated well with seven assists while Hutka had three.
