The Mountaineers Take Home the Victory

LAKEWOOD, CO - The Cougars took to the court on Tuesday night to face off against Western Colorado University for the makeup game which was postponed in early January. Sharp shooting by the Mountaineers was too much to overcome by Colorado Christian as they were defeated by a final score of 80-72. The Cougars are now 5-13 on the season and 2-10 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED - The first quarter was a battle between the two conference opponents is there were five lead changes throughout the opening 10 minutes of play. WCU used some timely shooting to finish out the quarter and take the early lead 16-10 heading into the second.

The Cougars bounced back in the second quarter with much better shooting from the floor and were able to cut into the lead before the beginning of the second half. Junior Sophia Karasinski cranked up the intensity in the second quarter as she rallied her team by scoring nine of the teams 20 points in the quarter. CCU trailed at halftime by a score of 35-30.

Western dialed in their long-range shooting during the break which ended up being the difference maker in the game. The Mountaineers finished the game shooting an impressive 9-17 from beyond the arc compared to just 3-12 for CCU. The Cougars refused to go down without a fight and they were able to keep things close in the fourth quarter, however their comeback attempt came up short as they fell by a final score of 80-72.

UP NEXT - Colorado Christian will be back on their home court for their next game as they square off against Regis University on Friday with tip scheduled for 5PM.
