LAKEWOOD, CO – Colorado Christian took on Colorado Mesa University in game one of their last at-home series of the season. The Mavericks had an impressive display from the batter's box in a powerful 20-7 win.
HOW IT HAPPENED – CCU began the game with a very promising and quick three-up-three-down in the top of the first. However, CMU took control immediately after on offense (5 doubles, 3 triples, and 6 home runs) and defense (7 total shutout innings) on their way to a win.
Colorado Christian struggled to get the bats rolling with just 2 hits and no runs through the first 6 innings. Great pitching from Colorado Mesa's pitchers seemed like they were leading their team to a shutout. Through six and a half innings, the Mavericks had an 18-0 lead. In the bottom of the 7th though, CCU flipped a switch.
Eli Ludwig opened the hitting with a base hit single.
Kade Carney singled to right center and advanced Ludwig to third.
Caden Walton came up to bat and knocked an RBI single as Carney ran to third and Ludwig scored. A flyout to right field scored Carney as
Wyatt Crenshaw stepped up to the plate. Crenshaw smacked a home run over the wall in right field and tallied the third and fourth runs of the inning for CCU.
Jordan Medina then doubled to right field and
Gabe Ramos showed up to make it a pair of home runs for the Cougars. His two-run blast brought CCU's total to six runs on the day.
Crenshaw added another run in the bottom of the ninth with a solo homer, his second time deep shot of the game. The presence and power at the plate just came too late for the Cougars.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- Crenshaw hit two HR's and leads the team with fourteen on the season
- Estrada struck out three batters in one inning
