Cougars Dominate Seattle Pacific in Blowout Victory at Home

LAKEWOOD, CO- Colorado Christian returned home for a non-conference matchup against Seattle Pacific on Friday afternoon. Led by a stifling defense and offense that caught fire, CCU ran away with a dominant 68-41 victory.

Nicole Bowlin scored the first points of the game and the Cougars were off and running. Agnes Paul and Regan LoConte posted baskets for a 6-2 lead, and later Maggie Phipps connected from downtown for a 13-5 advantage. The Falcons fought their way back towards the end of the quarter to cut the CCU lead to 15-13 heading to the second quarter.

The second quarter was the turning point in the game as the Cougars took firm control of the game with excellent offense and defense. Consecutive three-pointers from LoConte and Phipps stretched the lead to 22-13, and CCU continued to pour it on to go up 25-15. SPU would score just two points in the quarter at the halfway mark, and from there it was all Colorado Christian. A 22-0 stretch that extended into the second half ensued from the 5:05 mark in the second period, led by more baskets from beyond the arc from Victoria Perez and Phipps. At halftime, the score stood in favor of the hosts 40-15.

After an 8-0 run to start the third quarter, things looked to be all but over. The Falcons tried to get back into it, but a late Perez jumper sent the teams to the final quarter with the Cougars leading 54-28.

Bowlin and Perez opened the final period with layups, and Perez knocked down yet another three to solidify the result. Kennedy White got involved with a pair of free throws, and Jenna Jendall put the icing on the cake with a late three-pointer to close out the dominant 68-41 triumph.

Perez was excellent all night, tallying 17 points, while Phipps posted 12. Two other Cougars scored in double digits as Bowlin poured in 11 followed by Maggie Hutka with 10. Dasiya Jones pulled down 10 rebounds and Phipps registered three assists to lead her team.

The Cougars will be back at it again on November 25 as they host #13 Eckerd College with tipoff slated for 3 p.m. MST.
