CCU Honors and Celebrates the Legacy of Darren Richie

CCU joins the Richie family and CIU in honoring and celebrating the legacy of Darren Richie.

It is with a heavy heart that CCU mourns the sudden death of former Athletic Director, Darren Richie. Although his departure from Colorado Christian University was in 2016, his legacy continues as he left an incredible mark on each and every person he met.

Richie served as the Athletic Director here at CCU for nine years, beginning in 2007. He was known as not only an AD but a supervisor, coach, friend, father, and mentor. Richie's influence and accomplishments at CCU were insurmountable. The athletics department saw great success under Richie's leadership, including 32 NCCAA National Championship appearances, 4 NCCAA National Championship titles, 12 NCAA National Championship appearances, women's basketball RMAC Champions 2014-2015, 4 RMAC Sportsmanship Cups, the addition of 6 new varsity sports, growth of the program from 140 to 300 student athletes, and 20 CCU athletic-led mission trips, 9 of which Richie led in Costa Rica serving with student athletes.

He was a pillar of strength, an encourager, and a friend to all as he made those around him feel seen and known.

His loss is felt by an innumerable amount of alumni, staff, coaches, and community here in Lakewood. We ask that you join us in prayer for his wife, (Claire), his five daughters (Jessica, Nicole, Cassidy, Lindsey, and Jordan), and their families.

Darren Richie's legacy is one of character and faith that has been woven into the lives of others and cannot be erased.
