PUEBLO, CO- Colorado Christian closed their roadtrip on Saturday as they took on CSU Pueblo. Led by a number of key performances, the Cougars rolled to a 78-67 win over the Thunderwolves for their first conference victory.
Agnes Paul and Maggie Phipps got the scoring started fast, putting up the first 7 points of the game including five from Phipps with a jumper and three. Nicole Bowlin continued the onslaught with a three as the Cougars pulled ahead 17-8. A Regan LoConte jumper extended the lead to 12 and CCU closed the first quarter with a 25-15 lead.
Jenna Kendall drilled a pair of free throws to see the lead sit at nine, and Maggie Hutak connected on a jumper to grow the lead to 11. A small run from the Thunderwolves sent the teams to halftime with CCU leading 42-35.
Dasiya Jones started the second half with a jumper to quickly make the lead nine, while a CSU Pueblo push cut the deficit to one with a little over three minutes left in the third quarter. The Cougars responded well with a Victoria Perez three-pointer and four free throws from Bowlin to extend the lead to its largest all game at 61-48 heading to the final quarter.
The fourth quarter was a strong one for CCU as they never let the hosts get close, and Perez drilled another three to grow the lead to 14. A late push from CSU Pueblo was not enough, as Colorado Christian closed out a quality 78-67 win for their first victory in RMAC play.
Hutka led with 21 points followed by Bowlin with 16. Jones posted another double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while LoConte distributed well with four assists.
The Cougars are back at home on December 7 as they host Western Colorado with tipoff scheduled for 6 p.m. MST.
