LAS VEGAS, NV – The Cougars are coming home from a weekend on the road with a pair of losses, which was sealed on Saturday night after the Cowgirls of New Mexico Highlands defeated CCU by 7 points.
Coming into the matchup, both teams were tied up in conference play with a 6-11 record. A slow start put Colorado Christian behind from the jump, as NMHU was up 22-7 at the end of the first quarter. The biggest lead the Cowgirls held was 23 points, and at the half they had the advantage at 50-28. The Cougars came out hot in the third quarter, and outscored New Mexico Highlands 30 to 14 to shorten the difference to 6 points.
Maggie Phipps scored 16 of her 20 points in the third quarter alone, which was vital in getting CCU back in the game. Despite the strong comeback, NMHU was able to stay steady in the final quarter to take the win with a final score of 78-71.
Leading both teams in scoring was
Maggie Phipps who tallied 20 points.
Dasiya Jones was next in line for the Cougars with 18 to her name, followed by
Nicole Bowling with 16.
Agnes Paul had the most rebounds for CCU after bringing down 8.
Colorado Christian will be local for their next pair of games – playing at Colorado School of Mines on February 17
th, and at MSU Denver on February 18
th.
