Season Finale Loss

LAKEWOOD, CO - The Cougars close their season with an intense match against South Dakota Mines. The Hardrockers started the game off hot on the three point line although the Cougars eventually were able to hold them off. However, the Hardrockers took the victory with a score of 57-61. 

The second quarter became a defensive battle between both teams, keeping the score at a close call. In the first half of the game Regan LoConte fired off the game with 8 points followed by Mykaela Moore with 6 points. With 25 seconds in the first half the Hardrockers scored both free points shots taking a 8 point lead. 

`The Cougars came back strong in the third quarter to tie the game with three minutes left. The fan section got loud with excitement as the back and forth shots continued. With 14 seconds left the Cougars brought the score up to 44-45, Hardrockers with the advantage.  

 LoConte scored a three pointer at the start of the last quarter, which brought the Cougars in close range of taking the lead. Despite the strong defense the game ended in a 57-61 loss for the Cougars. 

 Leading the Cougars offense, LoConte scored a total of 16 points followed by Dasiya Jones and Christen Curry both with 10 points. Maggie Phipps and Moore both tallied up 6 points each. Cougars had a total of 49 rebounds with Dasiya Jones leading with 8 followed by Agnes Paul with 7. 

 Although senior night did not come away with a win, the Cougars are proud of their efforts. Head Coach Diane Thompson says, "With 9 new players, it was sad that we couldn't come up with a win for our seniors. But very excited that they got the opportunity to compete and lead this program hopefully to the next level with a great foundation of what we are trying to build at CCU. 

Colorado Christian finished 10-18 overall, and 6-16 in conference to close out their 2022-2023 season, and already looks forward to the next campaign.
