GAME ONE
Kali Crandall took the mound in the first contest for the Cougars as they kicked off their season. In a battle of Cougars, it was the team from San Marcos who jumped ahead early, scoring seven runs in the second inning to take command of the game. Things remained the same till the top of the fifth, when a Kenzie Middleton walk and Taylor Olsen single led to a run when Savannah Tourville reached on an error. A bases loaded situation in the sixth for CCU did not supply any runs, and CSUSM closed out the victory by a final score of 7-1.Ā
Olsen led with two hits during the game, while four players had a hit apiece.Ā
GAME TWO
Taking on Biola University in their second contest of the day, the game followed a somewhat similar script as the first. The Eagles pounced in the first inning, going ahead 5-0 after one with some effective small ball. The Cougars mounted a rally though, starting with an RBI double from Miki Berg in the bottom of the second. Kenzie Middletonm tripled home a run in the third, and scored shortly after to bring the deficit to just 5-3.Ā
Biola struck back with a run in the fifth, and a pair more in the sixth to take an 8-3 advantage. Another Kenzie Middleton triple brought CCU two runs closer in the bottom half of the sixth, and Sami Edwards picked up a sac fly to score another run and make it 8-6. A two spot from BU in the top of the seventh pushed the lead to 10-6, and that would be the final score from Irvine as Colorado Christian fell to the PacWest opponent in a close affair.Ā
Kenzie Middleton led the offense with a pair of triples and three RBI, while Edwards and Berg picked up an RBI each.Ā
The Cougars will look to get into the win column when they take on Hawaii Pacific University, another PacWest team, on February 4 at 2:30 p.m. MST.
