AZUSA, CA- The Cougars traveled north to take on Azusa Pacific University for a doubleheader on Tuesday evening. They took game one in dominant fashion behind two Logan Menzies home runs and a shutout from Kali Crandall 8-0.
GAME ONE
Crandall took the mound in game one, and through four innings the score stood at 0-0. CCU broke through in the top of the fifth, as Menzies unloaded on a ball for a two-run homer to left field. Savannah Tourville picked up an RBI groundout before Taylor Olsen singled home another run for a four run fifth inning. Samaria Roope nicked home another run in the sixth with a single, and Menzies blasted her second homer of the game, a no-doubter to make the score 7-0. Leah Garcia picked up an insurance run on a sac fly in the seventh, and Crandall pitched her way to a complete game shutout 8-0.
Crandall went all seven innings, allowing just four hits and striking out five. Menzies led the offense with four RBI on a pair of two-run homers as the Cougars blew out the Azusa Pacific Cougars in game one.
GAME TWO
CCU wasted no time getting on the board in their second matchup of the night, tacking on three runs in the first inning on a bases-clearing double from Mikayla Oaks. Olsen extended the lead in the fifth inning, slotting a single through the right side of the infield to make it 4-0 Colorado Christian. Miki Berg absolutely demolished a ball way over the fence in left field for a two-run homer to put no donut in the outcome of the game at 6-0. A late run from APU ended the game with a score of 6-1 in favor of the Cougars from Colorado.
Abrie Castillo was excellent on the mound, twirling 6.2 innings and allowing no runs on just four hits. Oaks and Berg led offensively with five of the teams' six RBI.
Next up for CCU is a neutral site doubleheader at Concordia Irvine against Northwest Nazarene at 2 and 4 p.m.
