Sweep of Roadrunners Secures Regular Season RMAC Title

DENVER, CO- With another doubleheader on hand, the Cougars followed their sweep yesterday with yet another on Sunday. Strong wins of 4-2 and 12-7 propelled CCU to the regular season RMAC title and they will host the conference tournament.

GAME ONE
It was a low scoring affair in the first contest of the day. A quick Kenzie Middleton homer put CCU on top 1-0 in the first. The hosts responded with two runs in their half of the first to take a brief lead. Taylor Olsen brought her team level with a sacrifice fly in the third. In the fifth, a Sami Edwards single gave the Cougars a 3-2 lead, and Logan Menzies launched a solo blast to left center to close out the 4-2 victory for her team.

Kali Crandall picked up her 22nd win of the season with a complete game on 5 strikeouts, while  the offense stayed balanced with four different players picking up an RBI.

GAME TWO
A much more high scoring affair ensued in the series finale in Denver. It was a hot start at the plate for the Cougars, starting with a solo homer from menzies. Savannah Tourville followed with a solo shot of her own over the center field wall to make it 2-0 in the second.

Kenzie Middleton singled in a run in the third, and Olsen uncorked a two-run bomb to left field to make it 5-0. A three run rally from the Roadrunners tightened things up, but Menzies struck back with an RBI double to make it 6-3. With the score at 6-5, the offense erupted in the sixth to put things away. Leah Garcia roped a double down the line for an RBI, and Edwards promptly singled in another run. Then Menzies broke the game wide open, crushing a three-run homer to make it 11-5. A Garcia homer in the final inning was icing on a tremendous series sweep as they took the game 12-7.

Abrie Castillo snagged the win with 4 innings pitched on 3 strikeouts, while Samaria Roope and Crandall closed things out the rest of the way. Menzies impressed with an eye popping 5 RBI in the game.

CCU hit the road again, this time heading to Colorado Mesa for a four-game series beginning with a doubleheader on April 22 at 12 and 2 p.m. MST.
