LAKEWOOD, CO- Colorado Christian returned home on Friday for their regular season finale with a doubleheader against Fort Lewis. It was a special day, as CCU hit a program record 50 wins with a sweep of the Skyhawks.
GAME ONE
The first game of the day was low scoring, but Logan Menzies got the scoring started with a two-run homer in the second. In her next at bat, Menzies blasted a solo shot to make it 3-0 at the end of four innings. From there, neither offense could get anything going as Kali Crandall was absolutely dominant throughout. A 3-0 victory closed out the third no-hitter of the season for Crandall as she came one batter away from a perfect game.
Crandall set down the first 20 batters she faced, but an untimely error with two outs in the seventh meant the perfect game was out of reach. She set down 9 batters via strikeout to reach an incredible 200 strikeouts on the year. Menzies provided all the offense needed with her two homer three RBI game.Â
GAME TWO
Another pitching duel ensued for the majority of game two, but Kayla Middleton struck early with a solo homer in the first. No runs scored until the fifth, when Kenzie Middleton unleashed a two-run homer to make it 3-0. A solo homer from Fort Lewis closed the gap, and they struck in the seventh for three runs to take the late lead. The Cougars refused to go down though, as Menzies came through in the clutch with two outs to tie it with an RBI single. The game went into extras from there, and in the ninth CCU was able to walk it off courtesy of a perfectly placed bunt from Savannah Tourville to secure win number 50 by a final of 5-4.Â
Abrie Castillo had another quality start, and Crandall entered in the eighth and was strong throughout with a perfect pair of innings.Â
Several records were broken on Friday, with the first being Kenzie Middletons' 16th homer to set the single season record. Crandall set the record for single season wins with 26 as she threw a no-hitter and reached 200 strikeouts on the season. Lastly, with their 50th win in game two, the Cougars now hold the program record for wins in a season.
CCU will look to close out the regular season strong as they face off against Fort Lewis April 29 with a doubleheader slated for 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. MST.
