Cougars Drop RMAC Matchup at UCCS

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO- Colorado Christian traveled south on Saturday as they faced off against UCCS at the Gallogly Events Center. After a tight first half, the Mountain Lions were able to pull away in the final two quarters to claim the 90-62 victory. 

UCCS pulled ahead early with a three, and for the entire first quarter they maintained a lead. Maggie Hutka and Dasiya Jones hit jumpers to get the offense going, but the hosts went to the second quarter leading 20-13. 

A slew of Hutka jumpers brought the Cougars to within four at 24-20, and later a Regan LoConte three-pointer cut the deficit to just two. Hutka then drilled another three to give her team the lead at 28-27, but a strong final moments from the Mountain Lions saw them take a 37-32 lead into the half. 

The home team extended their advantage in the third quarter to go ahead 10, but Maggie Phipps connected from beyond the arc to bring her team back. The third ended with UCCS leading 63-51. 

The fourth quarter started with a 12 point run from the Mountain Lions, and they never looked back as they pulled away for a 90-62 victory. 

Hutka paced the offense with 26 points to go with 7 rebounds, while Jones had 12 points and 5 boards. 

The Cougars will be back home on February 3 to face off with Black Hills State at 5 p.m. MST.
