SEATTLE, WA- Colorado Christian closed play at the SPU Thanksgiving Classic with a matchup against the hosts on Saturday. After a strong three quarters that saw CCU leading by 11, the Falcons went on a run in the fourth to complete a comeback victory 64-54.
Maggie Phipps got things started with an early three-pointer, and
Elise Grosdidier made a layup for the 5-4 lead.
Josie Grosdidier got in on the action with a jumper, and
Nicole Bowlin hit a jumper as the quarter ended with SPU leading 18-10.Â
Phipps drilled another three, and
Victoria Perez hit a jumper to close the deficit to three.
Dasiya Jones made a layup while a Perez three gave CCU the lead 26-24. A late Falcons three put the hosts up at the break 27-26.Â
The third quarter was a big one for the Cougars as Bowlin and Jones made layups for a five point lead. A Phipps jumper stretched the lead to seven, and a Perez jumper saw CCU go up 48-37 headed to the final quarter.Â
Bowlin and Jones coveted baskets to help their team, but the Falcons caught fire in the final quarter as they chipped away at the lead and eventually tied things up at 52 apiece. SPU continued to find their offense as
Hayley Luther made a layup to cut the deficit to three. The Falcons would go on to score the final seven points of the game as they pulled away for a 64-54 victory on their home court.Â
Phipps poured in 13 points and 7 rebounds while Jones tallied 12 points and 8 rebounds.Â
The Cougars open up RMAC play on the road on December 5 at Western Colorado with tipoff set for 5:30 p.m. MST.Â
