TYLER, TX- The Cougars closed play in Texas on Saturday with a matchup against Lubbock Christian. The Lady Chaps proved too much as they pulled away for a 66-52 victory in the end.
Victoria Perez got the scoring started for both teams as she sank the games' first bucket from three-point range. Another three from Perez put her team ahead 12-11, but the Lady Chaps responded from there to take a narrow 18-17 lead to the break.Â
The second quarter was a tough one for CCU as LCU stretched the lead. Four free throws made by
Maggie Hutka cut the gap to five, but a strong close from Lubbock Christian gave them a 36-26 halftime advantage.Â
Nicole Bowlin connected on a three-pointer to try and get her team back into the game, and CCU trailed 50-39 heading to the final period.Â
A pair of free throws from newcomer
Elise Grosdidier made it a single digit deficit, and
Josie Grosdidier capped the scoring for the night with a layup, but in the end it was LCU who came away with the 66-52 victory.Â
Hutka paced the offense with 16 points and nine rebounds, and Perez and Bowlin chipped in 11 and 10 points respectively.Â
The Cougars will return to their home state for a tournament hosted by CSU Pueblo as they take on Missouri Western State on November 15 at 3 p.m. MST.Â
