Beyond the Jersey: Makayla Boatman

Makayla Boatman is a redshirt sophomore basketball player at Colorado Christian University. Although Boatman was sidelined last season due to an ACL injury, she is ready to come back and have her best season ever, but basketball is not the only thing that identifies her.

The biggest aspect of Boatman's life is her faith. Boatman speaks to this saying, "My faith is everything to me. Staying firm in my faith in high school even at a public school made me grow in it." Faith has always been a huge part of her life since Boatman was little and basketball has given her the perfect platform to share her faith with those around her. When asked about how she brings her faith into a sport where there are a lot of people who do not believe in God, she said, "Whether we want to represent Christ or not, we are, so it is just a matter of how we act toward the refs and other teams and coaches."
As Boatman grows into an amazing basketball player and a strong asset for the team on the court, she speaks to how relationships in her life help her play the game she loves. "Basketball can be a fun thing at CCU and I really enjoy competing at a high level with my teammates," Boatman says when asked about her teammates' impact on her and her love for the sport.

The other major relationship in her life is with her fiancé Zach Nicolet. They have been engaged since May 20, 2024 and are planning on getting married in the summer of 2025. The entire coaching staff and her teammates have all been very supportive of her since she has been engaged and are excited to walk through the rest of Boatman's college career with her after her wedding this upcoming summer. "Zach has been so supportive of my basketball career, I don't think he has missed one of my games," says Boatman when asked about how much Zach has been there for her throughout her career.

Boatman looks forward to growing in her faith and continuing to play basketball at a high level when she comes back from her injury. Boatman is ready for whatever the rest of her career has for her because of her faith, her soon to be husband, and support from her teammates and coaches.
