Cougars Get Back on Track with Convincing Win Over New Mexico Highlands

LAKEWOOD, CO- Colorado Christian continued play at home with a matchup against New Mexico Highlands on Saturday. A dominant all-around team effort saw three players score 15 or more points in a convincing 76-47 victory. 

The first quarter began with a stalemate offensively as both teams grappled for control. Nicole Bowlin started the scoring with a jumper, and Victoria Perez later hit a jumper for an 8-1 lead. Maggie Hutka got going with a jumper before the first quarter closed for a 16-11 lead. 

The Cougars truly took over in the second quarter, starting with jumpers from Dasiya Jones and Hutka. Perez connected from deep to extend the lead to 12 at 31-19, and the home team closed the half well to take a 37-24 into the break. 

Hutka continued her scoring with a jumper early in the second half, while Jones went on a four-point run to stretch the lead to 45-26. Kora Huff converted a late layup as the dominance continued and CCU took a 57-38 lead to the final quarter. 

Kennedy White got a layup to go and followed it up with another moments later as she helped her team pull even further ahead. Jenna Kendall hit a jumper later in the frame, and White added yet another bucket for her third make of the game. Charis Kelly capped the dominant win with a three-pointer as the home team rolled their way to a 76-47 victory. 

The Cougars saw two players notch double-doubles, as Hutka had 20 points and 12 rebounds while Jones had 18 and 10 boards. Perez chipped in 15 points as the balanced scoring led CCU to an overwhelming victory. 

Colorado Christian returns to play at home on February 23 as they host Colorado School of Mines at 5 p.m. MST.
